First Real Time Linux Workshop on December 13 to 15, 1999 in Vienna, Austria
Announcement - Agenda - Paper Presentations - Participants - Discussions
13-15. December 1999
Institute for Machine and Process Automation,
Vienna University of Technology,
Guszhausstr. 27-29, 1040 Vienna, Austria
Workshop scope:
As you probably know, Linux has become a powerful operating system challenging the OS and computer market, because it is open source and adaptable to different hardware and computing problems. In particular, there are some groups spread over the world developing some modifications to the linux kernel in order to provide a hard real time operation system, e.g. FSMLab's RTlinux, DIAPM's RTAI etc, and the real time system KURT, all being well appropriate for control applications or even embedded systems. Since in our opinion
- developers know each other just by email,
- there is also a growing demand for real time operating systems for different hardware platforms and embedded systems,
- there is a danger that the defragmentation in different variants can introduce a negative feedback in the real time linux development,
Workshop result:
The participants list, the agenda with its presentations and discussions proof that- developers, industrial and research people have been brought together,
- there are real industrial "real time" and "hard real time" applications running under real time linux,
- a discussion on a general application interface for a real time linux version being independend on the hardware platform it is ported to with a free and opern source hard real time operating system has been triggered.
