Invitation
The OSADL Networking Day 2020 was initially scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 as a one-day conference in person in Heidelberg/Germany. Unfortunately, due to the cirumstances caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, this is no longer possible. So it was decided to transform the OSADL Networking Day into a virtual OSADL Networking Week which will take place from Monday, June 22 to Thursday, June 25, 2020. The daily two-hour sessions will consist of live video stream presentations followed by a discussion via video conference, alternating in the morning and in the afternoon. We hereby would like to cordially invite all OSADL regular, associate and academic members to participate at this virtual event.
The topic of the OSADL Networking Week 2020 will be "Open Source Policy: What is it and who needs it?"
We are confident that this topic is in line with current interests of companies to ensure that they are license compliant, and we are looking forward to welcome many OSADL members to this virtual OSADL Networking Week.
Rationale
Fullfilling Open Source software license obligations is not just a quick task that can be handled solely in the software department, but requires that many departments of a company know about the principle of Open Source software, interact appropriately with each other and follow the same rules. The latter is best achieved by establishing a company-wide document that contains responsabilities, individual tasks and rules with respect to Open Source software license compliance. Such document is called Open Source Policy. Since large part of such a policy is very similar, if not identical, among different companies, a template for it is best generated in a community and not individually by every company. OSADL has taken on such a community approach and has developed during past months a template for creating a company-wide Open Source Policy along with instructions how to use and information how to understand them. The 2020 OSADL Networking Week aims to elucidate the background behind the various steps of such an Open Source Policy. The various documents developed by the OSADL Open Source Policy project will be presented for the first time to a larger audience.
Agenda of virtual OSADL Networking Week
Open Source Policy: What is it and who needs it?
The four sessions of the OSADL Networking Week will take place virtually by live video streams. The "questions and discussion" rounds at the end of each session will take place by video conference. Information how to access the live video streams and subsequent discussions will be sent to the registered participants prior to the event.
