Who made Linux-2.6.22?

By: Carsten Emde

A total of 885 different developers added 494,000 lines and deleted 241,000 other lines

Did you see the interesting LWN.net article on the people behind Linux-2.6.22? This kernel version was released on July 8, 2007 and, as of this writing, represents the base release of the latest stable version of the Linux kernel. The LWN.net article thoroughly evaluated the kernel patches accepted for the kernel version 2.6.22-rc4 with respect to the number of change sets and the number of changed code lines in relation to the submitting individuals and their companies. The following table of the Top 20 companies of contributed code lines is one of the many tables contained in the article. The term "Code Lines" refers to the number of added and deleted code lines without counting renames.

Did you notice the company at rank #9? Thomas Gleixner and his team at Linutronix, Germany, contributed a total of 13,585 lines - even more than Intel, Cisco, Oracle, Freescale and many other somewhat larger companies. If you consider "(Unknown)", "(None)" and "(Consultant)" as a group of many individuals and companies and not as a single company - then they even reached #6! Congratulations to everybody at Linutronix. We are proud and happy to have you on board of the OSADL.
