OSADL Safety Critical Linux Working Group Seminar

This one-day seminar on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, held by OSADL's Safety Critical Linux Working Group will summarize the work that has been ongoing since the foundation of this working group.

The session's prime target is to introduce available resources and projects and outline strategies that are under consideration.

Program, Tuesday, October 20, 2009

In detail, we would like to introduce the essential topic of security in safety related systems that can be seen as an ongoing and fundamental change in the safety industry. This change not only can be seen in emerging standards and research calls, but also simply from requirements being voiced in the context of industrial projects to utilize open networks, FLOSS. While the safety and security community have evolved quite independent of each other there is considerable overlap, offering synergies at multiple levels.

Finally, a set of strategic options that were identified (with no claim of completeness) and are under investigation will be outlined. We conclude with a brief introduction to FLOSS projects that we see a promising basis for safety related systems based on FLOSS and COTS components, and wrap up with a short overview of the OSADL activities.

This session will be hosted by Liebherr Transportation Systems GmbH, Abteilung Systemtechnik, who is active in the development of safety-related platforms for on-board rail equipment and considering Linux as one of their strategic options for the future.
