Description
At first glance, Open Source software for safety and security related applications appears to be a no-go. How could one ever allow to install individually modified software on a certified system? At second glance it no longer appears to be any problem since any tampering with a safety or security device instantly will void any certification. However, when it comes to the actual integration of security and safety devices in combination with Open Source software components, various details need to be solved. And this exactly is the goal of the fourth OSADL Legal Seminar: how to keep track of all the bits and pieces that are required to release Open Source software components for security or safety devices.
On the first seminar day (October 12, 2016) an overview and expert presentations on the requirements for safety, security and Open Source will be given. In the afternoon a number of realistic field example cases will be presented and possible conflicts will be focused on.
On the second seminar day (October 13, 2016) various solutions to the cases will be presented and discussed.
For all those who have missed the previous OSADL Legal Seminars or would like to bring themselves up to date, a so-called "Refresher Course" is offered in the afternoon of the day before the seminar (October 11, 2016). The refresher course will summarize in short form general legal aspects when using Open Source software in industrial products and results of former seminars.
Goals/How participants will benefit
At the end of the seminar participants will have a profound knowledge on the implications of using Open Source software in security and safety devices. This will enable them to trigger related processes in your company and design future products.

Software developers, employees, project managers and directors of R&D departments, license compliance and Open Source officers, company lawyers and employees of legal departments, independent lawyers interested in Open Source software and related technologies, interested parties from the general audience.

The participation fee of employees of non-member companies amounts to EUR 1,500 plus VAT (if applicable) per person.

The conference language is German, all presentation material will be composed in English. Simultaneous interpretation of presentations in German language into English will be provided, if required.
