Invitation

The OSADL Networking Day 2019 will take place on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in Heidelberg/Germany, and we hereby would like to cordially invite all OSADL regular, associate and academic members to participate at this event.

The main topic of this year's Networking Day will be "Build systems for embedded Linux devices" that particularly focusses on existing and modified distributions, distro generators and individual build processes as well as on best practices.

The traditional mix between presentations on current topics of interest and the networking as well as the mutual exchange of ideas among OSADL members has motivated many of you to take part in recent years' OSADL Networking Days. We hope that this will be the case this year as well and are looking forward to welcome many of you on June 5, 2019 in Heidelberg. Please use this registration form for registration.

Rationale

When about 20 years ago a kind of "Linux revolution" took place and embedded systems were increasingly equipped with Linux kernel and related root file system, everything appeared to be straight forward and simple: Download the Linux kernel, download busybox, download some libraries, compile everything, combine it into a bootable image - and here you go. Twenty years later nothing is true any more. Instead of a limited number of similar platforms and standard requirements such as a bit of networking, a bit of graphics and some user applications, today there is a wide variety of platforms serving a nearly unlimited number of computing requirements with security challenges as the most important ones. In consequence, the decision-making of selecting the right tool to create the Linux kernel and rootfile system for an individual device is crucial for its success - or in other words, an inappropriate method will make it impossible to create a successful device. To escape from this dilemma this year's OSADL Networking Day will present an overview about the most important ways to create Linux kernel and rootfile system for an industrial product. Experts who are familiar with the various methods will present their view along with advantages and disadvantages of a particular build method.

The conference language of the OSADL Networking Day is English. All presentation material will be in English too.

Evening event

Subsequent to the conference session you are cordially invited to join us for a tour to the Car Museum Dr. Carl Benz in Ladenburg where you can experience the history of mobility - from the wooden wheel of Freiherr von Drais to the scooters of the 50s, from the first automobile in the world to the Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 "Silver Arrow". As impressive witnesses of the past, over a hundred vehicles await you to dive into history.

After the museum tour, OSADL invites its members to have dinner together in a restaurant located in the pedestrian area of the old town of Heidelberg.

Registration

For registration please use the registration form available here: Registration. Please register before June 3, 2019.

When you register for participation at the event you agree that your personal data entered in the registration form will be processed at OSADL as necessary (see our privacy policy).
