Rationale

The embedded world Exhibition & Conference is the world's leading meeting place for the embedded community.

As always OSADL, will be present at the embedded world Exhibition with its own booth in hall 4-168. In addition to the booth, there will be an entire OSADL session atf the embedded world Conference where most of OSADL's current activities will be included in scientific/technical talks.

When OSADL was founded 13 years ago, the main rationale behind our organization was creating a joint interest group of providing Open Source software for the machine and automation industry with a focus on providing the source code. At this time, this was mainly related to assist in the development of real-time Linux. Over the years, however, it was realized that although it is certainly a good starting point to have access to the source code, much more is needed to use a particular software component successfully in an industrial product. Such additional topics cover

  • Legal advise to compliantly copy and distribute Open Source software
  • Access to a test center to assess software quality (OSADL QA Farm)
  • Processes to certify Open Source software for being used in a safety-critical environments
  • Knowledge and methods to create secure embedded systems.

All these topics will be covered in the OSADL session 3.2 which will take place on the first day of the embedded world Conference on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in the afternoon.
